Sunsari Communal Clash

Security has been further tightened in Dewanganj, Sunsari following the communal clash, with the Nepal Army conducting aerial patrols while police and armed forces maintain an increased ground presence amid the ongoing curfew to prevent further unrest.

Reinforcements of security forces have been deployed in Kaptanganj, Sunsari, including police reinforcements from nearby districts and deployment of a drone from Kathmandu to monitor the security situation.

Curfew remains in Devanaganj-3, Kaptanganj, Sunsari due to tensions from an inter-community dispute; security has been tightened and the situation is calm. An all-party meeting was held to promote social harmony and calm the situation.

A five-member government panel led by Bhupendra Thapa began investigating the communal violence and police firing in Sunsari's Dewanganj Rural Municipality, where one death and 22 injuries occurred amidst protests and curfew enforcement.

Sunsari district was placed under an indefinite curfew starting Tuesday night, banning all public movement, rallies, gatherings, demonstrations, and assemblies to restore order amid escalating tensions and violent clashes involving rival armed groups.

The indefinite curfew imposed in Sunsari district on July 27 was lifted at 12:15 PM, ending restrictions that prohibited movement, assembly, processions, meetings, and blockades in the specified areas.

Curfew in Dewanganj, Sunsari, was lifted as security situation improved; however, restrictions on gatherings of more than five people remain in Dewanganj and Harinagar Rural Municipalities between 7am and 7pm.

The Communist Party of Nepal (United) condemned police firing on citizens during Sunsari unrest on July 27, demanding government investigation and immediate action against those responsible.

Nepali Army was deployed in Dewanganj and Kaptanganj, Sunsari, as protesters defied curfew orders, engaged in rioting and arson, resulting in over 22 injuries and the death of a civilian from police gunfire.

Violent clash between communities in Sunsari led to the death of Om Prakash Mehta and numerous injuries; protesters engaged in vandalism, arson, and attacks, prompting Army deployment and local security chief removal.

Curfew was imposed in several areas of Sunsari district including Bhantabari Bazaar, Ghuski Bazaar, and Dewanganj Bazaar from 7:00 am until further notice, restricting public gatherings and enforcing penalties.
