Nepal Protest Rights Inquiry

The National Human Rights Commission report named former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and Communications Minister Prithibsuwa Gurung as perpetrators of human rights violations during the August 23-24 protests, recommending legal action and further investigation into certain MPs and suspension of some security personnel.

Two commissions, including Nepal's National Human Rights Commission, identified deficiencies in crowd control equipment and security force preparedness during the Gen Z protests, recommending disciplinary and criminal action against senior officials and calling for improvements in non-lethal crowd control measures.

The National Human Rights Commission implicated former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, several ministers, and security officials for severe human rights violations during the September 8-9 Gen Z protests and recommended legal action against 13 individuals including Oli.

The National Human Rights Commission held former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and chiefs of Nepal Police, Armed Police, and National Investigation Department accountable for human rights violations and loss of life during the Gen Z protests.

The National Human Rights Commission recommended disciplinary action against current Inspector Generals of the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police for human rights violations during the Gen Z protests on Bhadra 23-24, including barring them from future government service.
