Sher Bahadur Deuba again urged party members not to join the convention organized by special general convention supporters and said completing the 15th general convention is his responsibility as elected president. He called on members to attend the December 7-9 convention instead.

Sher Bahadur Deuba warned that a unilateral decision on the convention date could split the Nepali Congress and urged leaders and cadres not to join the establishment faction’s convention process. He said the 15th convention should instead be held on November 21-23.

Deuba also said holding the convention while the matter remains sub judice violates the party statute and legal principles. His remarks escalated the leadership dispute as rival convention plans harden.

About 31 former Nepali Congress central members aligned with Purna Bahadur Khadka plan to take part in ward-level conventions on September 19 and 20. Khadka said he will stay out while his Supreme Court petition over the special general convention remains pending.
