Nepali Congress Convention

Nepali Congress said newly elected office-bearers and central members will be sworn in on October 29. The oath-taking follows the completed convention voting and counting process.

The party said counting for directly elected open-category central committee members would begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday at its central office in Lalitpur. Counting for joint general secretaries was already underway.

Voting for the Nepali Congress 15th General Convention leadership contest concluded in Kathmandu after the committee extended polling hours for about 500 delegates who had not yet voted. Counting was expected to begin soon after.

The election committee extended voting until 7 p.m. after long lines left many delegates uncast. The original 5 p.m. deadline had already been pushed back from the earlier schedule.

By 2:30 p.m., 3,754 votes had been cast in the convention as delegates chose the party president, office-bearers, and central committee members. Polling was still scheduled to continue into the afternoon before counting.

Nepali Congress delayed voting for its 15th General Convention in Kathmandu from Thursday to Friday because of bad weather, technical problems, and concerns over late-night polling. The party said delegates would vote from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. the next day.
