Nepal Governance Reform Drive

The government implemented administrative reforms including reducing ministries from 22 to 18 and abolishing 31 bodies, alongside several ongoing digital governance initiatives, although some key digital systems remain unimplemented.

Prime Minister Balendra Shah's government achieved 87.2% progress on its 100-point governance reform agenda within 100 days, with 70 points fully implemented, 17 points exceeding 80% progress, and 13 points below 60% completion.

The government publicized its 100-day achievements, highlighting governance reforms, asset investigations, cancellation of political appointments, dismantling of university trade unions, and efforts to reclaim public land. Initiatives include reducing ministries and launching online systems for employee transfers.

Despite administrative reforms and anti-corruption measures in the first 100 days, the government faces challenges restoring investor confidence amid regulatory uncertainty and slow private investment. The market capitalization has declined and concerns about regulatory unpredictability have increased.

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle announced the formation of the Property Probe Commission to investigate assets of political and public office holders to curb corruption and promote good governance. The commission is temporary and works alongside the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority.
