Airlines double daily flights to Jomsom as passenger traffic swells

Summary

Floods, landslides and erosion along the Kali Gandaki Corridor have blocked the Beni–Jomsom road, driving up demand for flights between Pokhara and Jomsom. Airlines have more than doubled daily services, while the Nepali Army is also running cargo and charter flights to Mustang.

Key Points
  • The blocked Beni–Jomsom–Korala road has made air travel the main option for passengers going to and from Mustang.
  • Tara Air and Summit Air are each operating seven flights a day from Pokhara, up from a maximum of five when the road was open.
  • More than 200 tourists enter Mustang by air each day, including Nepali pilgrims traveling for Pitri Tarpan during Sorha Shraddha.
  • The Nepali Army is also conducting cargo and charter flights, while helicopter tourists must travel with a security representative.
